Rooted at the Table: The Generations That Shaped My Love for Handmade Living

Updated: Feb 2

Most days in our home begin and end at the table.

It’s where lessons are learned, bread dough rises, studies are done, and stories are shared. It’s not always quiet or organized, but it is full of life, learning, and the kind of work that has been passed down from generation to generation.

The Rooted Table was born from that legacy. It is the embodiment of my roots, the people, skills, and values that shaped me into who I am today.

Where My Love for Handmade Began

My love for sewing, gardening, and baking didn’t stem from a trend or a desire to slow down; it was cultivated early, right at my grandmother’s side. She taught me to sew, bake, and enjoy working with my hands in the dirt. Time with her was never rushed and always led to deep, meaningful conversations and a few life lessons. There was meaning in every stitch, care in every recipe, and pride in creating something useful and lasting.

Those moments rooted something deep in me: a love for all things homemade and a respect for the knowledge passed down through generations.

That love continued to grow as I got older. I still sew with my mother and other ladies in my family, working side by side and hearing their stories. There is something incredibly grounding about sharing that time together, proof that these traditions are still alive and meant to be carried forward.

From my dad, I gained a love for music and all things creative, expressions that taught me patience, craftsmanship, and the beauty of learning by doing. He showed me that making something with your hands is more than a task; it’s a way of honoring the process and the person you’re becoming along the way.

All of these pieces—sewing, baking, music, leatherwork—came together to shape not only what I love, but at my core who I am.

A Life Rooted in Tradition

As I built a life of my own, homeschooling, caring for our home, and navigating the rhythms of ranch life, I found myself returning again and again to those same skills and values.

I wanted a home that felt lived in and welcoming. I desired a life that proceeded at a more leisurely pace. My days were shaped by intention rather than haste. You know the opposite of what's normal these days.

The things my grandmother and parents taught me became anchors. Baking bread wasn’t just about feeding my family; it was about continuity. Sewing wasn’t just practical; it was a way to slow down and create something meaningful. Working with my hands connected me to the past while grounding me firmly in the present.

The Rooted Table grew naturally out of that way of living.

Why I Create What I Do

I didn’t set out to build a business. I started creating because these were the things my own home needed.

I wanted items that were made to last, not to be replaced. Food that was nourishing and made with care. Goods that felt personal, thoughtful, and rooted in tradition. Every sewn piece and every baked good is created with the same mindset I learned growing up: Make it well. Make it useful. Make it with love.

Generations of knowledge inspire and shape the products I offer. My products are designed for homes that want to slow down, enjoy simple fresh meals together, and use handmade items daily rather than saving them for special occasions.

Passing Roots Forward

A rooted home isn’t built all at once. It’s created through small, intentional choices, choosing handmade over disposable, presence over perfection, and tradition over convenience when we can. I believe the skills we pass down, the meals we share, and the things we make with our hands all tell a story. They remind us where we come from and help shape where we’re going.

That belief is at the heart of The Rooted Table.
